Northwest Crossing: A New Kind of Neighborhood in Bozeman
Set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Bridger and Gallatin mountain ranges, Northwest Crossing in Bozeman, Montana is redefining what thoughtful community design looks like in a rapidly growing market. WHA, in collaboration with Williams Homes, provided full planning, design, and architectural services to shape this transformative neighborhood, one of the first of its scale in the region.
Originally envisioned as a workforce and attainable housing community with a mix of housing types, variety of square footages and price points, Northwest Crossing has evolved in response to market demands, shifting codes, and the realities of developing in Bozeman. The City, accustomed to per-lot submittals, had not previously encountered a builder-driven master plan of this kind. It created a learning curve for all parties involved, but one that we hope is paving the way for long-term development efficiency and product diversity.
Spanning 42 acres, the plan centers around a central park and interconnected open spaces within a grided block structure that prioritizes walkability, open space, and connections to surrounding development. From the start, Williams Homes and WHA understood that flexibility would be key. As the project progresses, product types were (and still are) adjusted to meet updated codes, building cost constraints, and buyer expectations, like a growing interest in private rear yards and guest bedrooms downstairs. This willingness to adapt while staying true to the core vision reflects a larger commitment to quality and livability.
Architecturally, Northwest Crossing offers a mix of Farmhouse, Contemporary, and American Foursquare styles with galvanized steel siding, natural wood accents, and bold color palettes that complement the Montana landscape. Despite smaller lot sizes, careful design and varied materials give each product a distinct presence. Stay tuned as the master plan continues to evolve and shape the future of living in Bozeman.
