WHA is Feeling Thank(FULL)

Thanksgiving creates the perfect occasion to reflect and practice gratitude. In this blog, we are passing the mic to our staff to hear what they are thankful for, what makes Thanksgiving unique, and how they celebrate.

In a survey sent out to staff, people shared different traditions they practice each year. Whether it be eating around a table at a relative’s house, gathering with friends, or hosting family for the first time, the WHA staff is grateful to be with loved ones and eating good food!

Quotes from staff:

“… we will always have leftover night on Friday at my parents’ house, no matter where each of us spends Thanksgiving Day itself. I also always go golfing with my dad during the day on Black Friday, while all the women in our family go shopping. This year, we will be joined on the golf course by my brother-in-law and his father as well…”

“Every year we ‘run’ in a Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning”

“Our family collects fall leaves from the neighborhood for the center of the table and holds hands around the table where each person says what they are grateful for.”

“After dinner, the older kids do the dishes, and the adults play a rousing game of Tripoli.”

“On Friday, the day after, the Christmas Lights go up and we hit the theaters to see the newest hit movie. When the kids were young, it was always the newest Disney hit.”

“My family will go on vacation on Thanksgiving because everyone is home! We miss the crowds and create great memories visiting new places and experiencing new things.”

Lots of eating…

“I cook all day with my mom, the family comes over, and eat too much food”

“If unable to celebrate with family due to geographical location, we have Korean BBQ instead!”

“Eat cookies & candy all day while watching football”

“On Thanksgiving, a Cowboy’s game and Dr. Pepper are must-haves”

“[My daughter,] Sloan, says “it’s not Thanksgiving without a giant plate of mashed potatoes and gravy! (If it was up to her, that’s all she would eat)”

“Left-overs for DAYS!”

Through the highs and the lows of this last year, we are grateful to have made it through and to be reunited again with our loved ones and practicing traditions that keep us grounded.
