Something for Your Taste Buds!

The Little Sparrow café located in downtown Santa Ana embodies a romantic, chic and tastefully decorated experience for diners.

With vaulted wood ceilings, white washed tones and accents, it’s reminiscent of a bistro setting in Paris. This historic building dates back to the early 1900’s. In hopes of preserving the exterior aesthetic, minimal changes were made to the curb appeal with the exception of new tiles, windows and creating an ADA accessible front entryway. In order to increase the overall square footage, two additional next-door units were added to the large front entry room located at the corner of Main and West 3rd Street. Connected by a long hallway, the walls are decorated with unique and very suitable…sparrow wallpaper! The back room has a sophisticated feel and intricate detailing that resembles something out of an old 1920’s movie.

Due to the building’s age, there were many obstacles throughout the design process. There was no fire rating so calculations had to be conducted and sprinkler systems had to be installed throughout. While increasing the overall square footage and adding the two existing neighboring units, the electrical paneling that was situated in the dividing wall had to be torn down and relocated to the exterior. Other constraints included suitable parking and trash enclosures deemed acceptable by the Santa Ana Planning Commission.
